My wife and I were $34,000 in debt, struggling to pay our bills and had no money in the bank. In a nutshell, we were in over our heads and couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. So we decided it was time to make a change.
We got on Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University plan and worked hardcore to pay it off. 14 months later, we were debt free except the house. But that wasn’t enough for us. We should have been excited that our house was paid down below $100,000, but we just weren’t.
So, we decided to sell the house, my coveted ‘68 Camaro, about 60% of our belongings and build a small, debt free home in the country. This is where our story really took a drastic turn and became more than just about us.
Now, we work, volunteer, live and play how we want. And while it’s not always easy, it’s always been worth it!

I have been a web designer since age 12 (Yes, that’s when I got my first paid gig!), a freelancer for the better part of 10 years, was hired on as agency director for a marketing agency and of course, dabbled in podcasting and blogging as mentioned above.
As for financial, not only do I have the real life experience, I’ve been able to coordinate 14 Financial Peace University classes over the years and am currently the Momentum Movement leader at my church. The next step is to become a certified financial coach through Dave Ramsey’s program.

I know where they come from. And while it may see counter productive to help them in their personal lives, the statistics say otherwise.
According to the Association for Talent Development (ATD), companies that offer comprehensive training programs have 218% higher income per employee than companies without formalized training. But it doesn’t stop there. These companies also enjoy a 24% higher profit margin than those who spend less on training. A recent Gallup Poll shows that roughly 85% of the world’s workers are not engaged. It’s my position that personal issues are likely a major cause of that as well as lack of training at work. Money fights and money problems are the #2 cause of divorce in this nation (Ramsey Solutions). And when a person is dealing with issues at home, they are not performing well at work either.
It’s also important to note that stress is a major contributing factor to under-productivity. If a person is stressed to the max, they are not operating to their fullest potential. And much of the stress problems come from things outside of work such as relationships, money and frustration in not achieving the lifestyle they really want.
By showing that you care for these problems in your employees, you will create a culture of people that appreciate where they work, have a more solid plan for life and are happier overall, leading to more productivity and better health. It all goes together.
