My wife and I were $34,000 in debt, struggling to pay our bills and had no money in the bank. In a nutshell, we were in over our heads and couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. So we decided it was time to make a change.
We got on Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University plan and worked hardcore to pay it off. 14 months later, we were debt free except the house. But that wasn’t enough for us. We should have been excited that our house was paid down below $100,000, but we just weren’t.
So, we decided to sell the house, my coveted ‘68 Camaro, about 60% of our belongings and build a small, debt free home in the country. This is where our story really took a drastic turn and became more than just about us.
Now, we work, volunteer, live and play how we want. And while it’s not always easy, it’s always been worth it!
Here’s our feature story on GoDownsize that now has over 1,000,000 views!
In the past, God has allowed my writing to reach millions of readers through various online publications. I have been interviewed on several podcasts including Life, Money, Hope (47:07) and given the privilege to interview leadership authorities like Dan Miller, Kimanzi Constable, Chris Brogan, Jeff Goins and more. You can find some of my articles on sites like Michael Hyatt, 48Days, Problogger and Lifehack. (more here) I’ve also had the privilege to work with companies like Stetson, Resistol, Mountain Dew, Pier 1 Imports, TCU Neeley School of Business and others. If you’d like to see my full digital footprint and resources, you can do so through Google search here.
I also self-published a book called The Connection Brand where I talk about the power of a brand that knows how to truly connect with people. You can find the book and reviews on Amazon.
I have been a web designer since age 12 (Yes, that’s when I got my first paid gig!), a freelancer for the better part of 10 years, was hired on as agency director for a marketing agency and of course, dabbled in podcasting and blogging as mentioned above.
As for financial, not only do I have the real life experience, I’ve been able to coordinate 12 Financial Peace University classes over the years and am currently the Momentum Movement leader at my church. The next step is to become a certified financial coach through Dave Ramsey’s program.
Hopefully this sheds some light on my commitment to learning and growing personally and professionally. My goal is to be a lifelong learner and I hope to inspire others on your team to do the same.
What this means for your employees
I know where they come from. And while it may see counter productive to help them in their personal lives, the statistics say otherwise.
According to the Association for Talent Development (ATD), companies that offer comprehensive training programs have 218% higher income per employee than companies without formalized training. But it doesn’t stop there. These companies also enjoy a 24% higher profit margin than those who spend less on training. It would seem that continuing to invest in training and development, even when there are economic downturns, is the smart play. (Paragraph copied from this source)
A recent Gallup Poll shows that roughly 85% of the world’s workers are not engaged. It’s my position that personal issues are likely a major cause of that as well as lack of training at work. Money fights and money problems are the #2 cause of divorce in this nation (Ramsey Solutions). And when a person is dealing with issues at home, they are not performing well at work either.
It’s also important to note that stress is a major contributing factor to under-productivity. If a person is stressed to the max, they are not operating to their fullest potential. And much of the stress problems come from things outside of work such as relationships, money and frustration in not achieving the lifestyle they really want.
By showing that you care for these problems in your employees, you will create a culture of people that appreciate where they work, have a more solid plan for life and are happier overall, leading to more productivity and better health. It all goes together.
Here are some options for consulting topics I can bring to your company to improve your people’s lives and company culture.
Personal Development Consulting Topics
Maximize Your Life: Aligning your goals and lifestyle
Summary: If a person isn’t living the life they want, it’s probably because their lifestyle and goals are not aligned. I will show your audience exactly why this is the case and provide steps to help them get the alignment they want. It is a message of dreaming again and showing there is still hope no matter how stuck they might feel. The audience will walk away feeling like they have a renewed sense of life and a reason to be more productive in all areas!
Target audience: This can be a corporate presentation that will outline the need for goal setting, aligning lifestyle choices and working toward a more positive future.

Financial Freedom: The power living debt free has to allow you to dream and hope once again
Summary: This addresses a major issue in American society today…debt. A recent study shows that most Americans can’t afford a $400 emergency. That is insane! I will show your audience the importance of eliminating debt and working toward dreaming about what their life could be once again. For the younger audiences, this will be an eye opener to prepare for their future.
Target Audience: This is for a company that wishes to build a culture of people that like to dream, hope and work more productively. People who are under the pressure of debt tend to underperform in life and in the workplace.
- Audience will understand the crushing power of debt from a mind and body standpoint
- Audience will have a plan to begin working to get out of debt to achieve the goals they want in life.
- Audience will know where to point others that are under the pressure of financial disaster

The Entrepreneur Mindset: Building a company culture that fosters growth
Summary: I’ve been an entrepreneur or freelancer my entire life. It’s just been my mindset from birth to create and build and work on something important. The interesting this is that many people feel this way and few carry that passion into the workplace. That means your employees aren’t operating to their full potential because they aren’t passionate about what they come to work for. But we can change that together. Fostering a place of creativity and empowering your employees doesn’t mean they will rebel and leave. They want the financial security you offer, but they also want to give input and make a difference.
Target Audience: Any corporation that struggles with their employees not being fully engaged at work. With statistics showing 85% of the worlds workers not being engaged, it’s fair to say your company may be in that boat. Take the step to invest your people and they will invest in you.
- Attendees will be empowered to communicate more effectively with coworkers and leadership
- Attendees will know the company wants to see a positive culture shift
- Attendees will want to spend more time growing personally and professionally to improve themselves
- Attendees will know how to bring up issues on a more personal level than ever before
- Attendees will know of other brand and companies to look and research for inspiration on culture
Benefits of a Consultant
As a consultant, my success is tied directly to yours. So it’s my job to deliver actionable items that will work for you and can realistically be put into action. I provide the training, information and actionable items, and you put it into play in your company. More often than not, a consultant will give you the fluff of what something is without telling you how to do it. I believe in results and that’s what sets me apart.
The following are some benefits of using a consultant like myself:
- Precise deliverables/expertise
- Practical & personal experience
- Help your bottom line
- More flexibility
- Less financial risk
- Solid plan and direction for your future
This is a presentation based on marketing. The purpose of it being here is to give a sense for how I present though, not necessarily the content. Note this was a speaking event, not a training.
